Since we were facing a holiday weekend in a house with minimal furniture, no internet (gasp - the horror!), and little else to do but spend money we absolutely don't have at the moment, we decided to make one last attempt to go and see R's dad and step mom.
And holy crap! We made it with no disasters (knock on wood, plaster, drywall, vinyl, you name it). As further proof that the karma gods were truly looking out for us, Oklahoma had an actual blizzard that started Christmas Eve. Bob and Sandy told us about it, but we were surprised to see the mounds of snow that were still piled everywhere over a week later. I'm so glad that we didn't have to drive in that mess. WOW. So the kids are getting to see another set of grandparents, and we had a great evening last night just hanging around with them. After we got the kids to bed, we watched The Hangover. Fun-ny!
I was even able to pack us all for the weekend in one small suitcase including bathroom stuff. Yay! The Nitro did well on the way down, just as it did on the way to Illinois, so I'm interested to see if the gas mileage improves since it's not weighed down with 300+ lbs of luggage.
The plan for today? Vacuum out the travel accumulation of food and crumbs in the backseat and wash the salt and grime residue off the Nitro. Do a little baking as therapy for me and a contribution to the fabulous food we'll have while in Oklahoma. I'm still full from dinner last night, but I'm hungry just thinking about dinner tonight. Oh, treadmill and elliptical, how I will be wearing you out next week. Totally, absolutely, worth it. :)
